Call for Projects: Berlinale Co-Production Market Seeks Film and Series Projects Looking to Connect with Partners

For the 20th Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 18–22, 2023), experienced producers from all over the world can submit new feature-length film projects in need of co-producers and financiers until September 30, 2022. By the end of this year, market curator Martina Bleis and her team will choose approximately 20 projects from all submissions and confirm them for the official selection. The project budgets can be anywhere between one and 20 million Euros, and should have at least 30 percent of the financing or production funding from the project’s native country in place prior to selection.

Exceptional edition of European Film Market comes to a successful conclusion / Results of EFM Industry Sessions on participation and active shaping of industry change published

This exceptional edition of the European Film Market (EFM) at the 72nd Berlinale ended successfully yesterday, Thursday. The international trading platform for audiovisual content had to be moved online for the second time due to the pandemic. But even in virtual space, countless business meetings were organised and a record number of deals concluded during the EFM, which ran from 10-17 February.

Around 600 exhibitors (2021: 504) from 62 countries (60) presented themselves on the EFM platform, and around 1,300 market screenings (1,452) and 827 films (821) were shown, including over 600 market premieres (578). For the first time, companies from Costa Rica, Malaysia, Mongolia and Uruguay were amongst the exhibitors.

This year, the European Film Market’s conference programme, the “EFM Industry Sessions”, is entitled SHAPING CHANGE. Over six days (10-15 February 2022), challenges in times of digital transformation will be addressed and impulses given to help shape our shared future. The three core themes - future, diversity & inclusion and sustainable development - will be discussed in four programme strands, in different formats including a tailored three-part think tank series. Networking in the form of round tables and organised meetings will also be a central component. On February 14, film producers attending “Books at Berlinale” will have the chance to discover twelve new literary works that lend themselves perfectly for adaptation to the screen. The selected novels will be presented at a pitching session in the framework of the Berlinale Co-Production Market. At a get-together following the session, the invited producers will be able to join in conversation with respected, internationally active literary agents and representatives of publishing houses who hold the film rights to the works in question.
