The brand new CANAL+ Original, political thriller series Moloch Files produced by international Emmy winning producers, is set against the backdrop of contemporary Central Europe, where political power, personal ambition, and buried secrets collide. Following an attack on the President of the Czech Republic (Miroslav Donutil), an unlikely alliance forms between Martin Braun (Jan Révai), a Czech disillusioned investigative journalist, and Julie (Eliza Rycembel), a Polish sharp-witted online sleuth. Together, they unravel a web of conspiracies linking Europe's turbulent past with its fragile present. As the trio navigates high-stakes political intrigue and familial betrayal, Moloch Files weaves a gripping tale of morality, sacrifice, and the cost of truth in a world where everyone has something to lose, taking the story from Central Europe to war torn Ukraine.

The project combined writers and talent from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine and Poland. An international cast headlined by a-listers, Poland’s Eliza Rycembel (Corpus Christi) and Czech superstar actor Miroslav Donutil. This case study on Moloch Files will delve into the creation of the series from concept to execution, analyzing the storytelling, the financial strategies behind producing a high-stakes political thriller for international audiences. It will highlight the challenges of navigating collaboration across large production teams and distributors.

The project is one of the first CANAL+ Original coming from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, produced in a Czech-Slovak-Ukrainian co-production by companies Bionaut and Raketa with the support from Council of Europe’s pilot programme for TV co-productions, the Czech Audiovisual Fund’s incentives programme and the Slovak Audiovisual Fund’s support programme for the audiovisual industry. Moloch Files was filmed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. The series is scheduled to premiere on the CANAL+streaming platform in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in May 2025.
