Media Consumption Habits of Young People in Europe
Berlinale Industry Events
Access: Market Badge

What kind of media content do young people prefer, how do they discover and consume media content? Traditional audiovisual media content, like films and series, increasingly compete for the attention of young people with newer types of content, like video games and social media. Understanding the wider media consumption habits and preferences of young people in Europe is crucial for the current and future competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector and for promoting cultural diversity. The European Commission has recently carried out an EU-wide consumer survey on media consumption habits, including audiovisual media, across all generations. The session will provide a first preview of the results of this research and will focus on young people specifically. The results will feed into the second edition of the European Media Industry Outlook, a comprehensive media market report which the Commission plans to publish in spring 2025. Following the presentation, a panel of industry professionals will provide further insights into the media consumption habits of young people and what this means for the European audiovisual sector.
