Great stories have always been catalysts for societal change. Today, we need their power perhaps more than ever. As societies worldwide are muddling through 21st-century transformations, we ask: how can the film industry ensure it is telling stories that will resonate with future audiences? At this event, film industry creatives will have the opportunity to engage with leading societal insights and identify issues of critical importance, to create future-facing narratives ahead of time.

The workshop will kick off with opening words from Think Film’s COO Amy Shepherd who will speak about the power of storytelling as a force for change. Her recent work includes the impact campaign for Joshua Oppenheimer’s The End, an iconic musical about climate deception starring Tilda Swinton.

Designed as an interactive workshop, Future Narratives at the European Film Market explores the kinds of stories that need to be told by highlighting emerging issues, tensions, and changes in society. We explore how, in practical terms, societal insight can be turned into captivating fiction. In the workshop our expert team will prompt the room with future visions, and together with participants, translate societal insight into creative entertainment concepts.

As part of the workshop Cassandra team will demonstrate a case study of its collaboration with one of the Nordic’s leading independent studios, Finland’s Yellow Film.

The event is organized by Cassandra Visions, an organization in between globally leading societal thinkers and the film industry. Cassandra Visions is powered by Demos Helsinki, an independent think tank entirely focused on creating impact. Operating on a global scale, Demos Helsinki collaborates with a diverse range of prominent organizations, including the OECD, United Nations, mayors' and prime ministers' offices, and major international philanthropic foundations.
