"Books at Berlinale", established in 2006 in cooperation with Frankfurter Buchmesse, is the first rights market at an A-Film Festival.

At Books at Berlinale, 10 selected novels are presented to an audience of internationally established producers at the Berlinale Co-Production Market.

The book presentation is engagingly moderated and the respective rights holders (publishers/literary agents) are introduced. Producers and film rights holders can then meet at a Matchmaking Session on the following day.

Starting mid-September and till November 12, publishers and literary agents can submit their new novels for the upcoming edition of Books at Berlinale. The selected projects are announced in January.

If you wish to have your novel considered for Books at Berlinale, you should be the film rights holder of the novel. Your book proposal should be a best-selling or brand new, yet to be published novel with great potential for screen adaptation. Please bear in mind when deciding which book to submit that the international producers attending the Berlinale Co-Production Market mainly work in the arthouse sector. Their average budgets for realising a film range from 1-6 million Euros. An English translation or a sample translation of the novel must exist for the selection, and also in order to be handed out by you to interested producers upon request.

If you are not sure which book to submit, please do not hesitate to contact us anytime at to discuss your suggestions.
