About

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Art and Heritage, Chile’s vibrant film scene will present itself from a variety of perspectives at the Berlinale’s EFM 2020.

The "Country in Focus" initiative offers Chile’s film industry a special platform and its filmmakers the opportunity to introduce themselves in greater depth and to highlight certain aspects.

The opportunity to focus on and extensively present film countries such as Chile at the market supports not only the EFM’s relationships with individual film industries internationally, but also fosters exchange between the film industries themselves.

“Chile in Focus” at the EFM is an important global showcase for Chilean creators that will enable Chilean content to reach new audiences and will create new export opportunities for its industry.

It's also the recognition of Chile's trajectory in the film industry worldwide with films that have won the Berlinale Silver Bear for Best Screenplay (Una mujer fantástica), the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (Una mujer fantástica) and Best Animated Short Film (Historia de un oso), the Goya Award for Best Iberoamerican Film (La Frontera, La Buena Vida, La Vida de los Peces, Una mujer fantástica) and the Emmy Award for Best Short Series (Una Historia Necesaria, ¿Con qué sueñas?).

The main programme will provide many opportunities to network with Chilean producers, distributors, investors and creators and to get to know Chilean productions, positioning Chile as a protagonist in the global film, tv and new media industry, backed by its co-production agreements with Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada, France and Italy. In addition, participating in the EFM makes Chile a destination that goes beyond the audiovisual, including and making other industries visible.

“Chile in Focus” will also mark the 10th anniversary of CinemaChile, the organisation that is successfully promoting Chilean cinema worldwide.
